Lighting Solutions is an open house and workshop event held on Feb. 3rd at Michigan State University to showcase the latest horticultural LED lighting research. Led by Dr. Erik Runkle and Dr. Roberto Lopez, it attracted around 60 industry professionals across the country. This event fostered communication between academia and industry and provided growers and lighting professionals with research-based information.

Urban Ag News created the video below to document the highlights of this event. This video was made possible by Hort Americas and Current, powered by GE.

Graduate students working with Drs. Runkle and Lopez presented their ongoing research projects in the greenhouses. They shared their research findings on supplemental lighting, photoperiodic lighting, and sole-source lighting for production of ornamentals and edibles.

Following the greenhouse tour, Dr. Runkle, Dr. Lopez, Qingwu (William) Meng, and Yujin Park delivered four presentations. They shared insights on different lighting strategies in horticultural production and the economics of LED lighting.
